UL announces LED Lighting Summit European road show
A European road show organized by UL and sponsored by Roal, is a unique chance to meet with representatives of the lighting industry
Sponsored by Roal Electronics, recognized as a centre of excellence in excellence in true digital power architectures, and more recently focused on utilizing HB LEDs in the design and manufacture of integrated Solid State Lighting Systems, and in collaboration some of the biggest lighting trade associations in Europe and overseas, such as Assoluce in Italy, Fedai in Spain, SSLITA in the US, the LED Lighting Summit is a unique event where delegates can meet with representatives of the lighting industry in Europe and discuss the use of LED as a light source in lighting products exported to the US market.
UL is aware that LEDs are advancing rapidly, bringing new players into the market and also a need for updated safety requirements that address some of the specific issues associated with this technology. In response to this need, UL met with representatives of the US lighting industry in October 2006 to discuss general guidelines for the standard under development so that it better tends to customers' needs.
In accordance with these discussions, UL recently released UL 8750, Outline of Investigation for Light Emitting Diode Light Sources, for Use in Lighting Products. This document is now used the main set of requirements within our certification process for all investigations involving these products.
The primary goal for UL is to demonstrate that LEDs are as safe as other lighting technologies and to ensure that these products enjoy broad market acceptance. At the road show, UL seeks to offer European lighting manufacturers a better understanding of the different safety requirements and design considerations that come into play when designing products destined for overseas distribution.
Participants of the LED Lighting Summit will be able to gain a better understanding of the direction of current and future LED technology, as well as a have a preview of the newest Outline of Investigation (OOI) - UL8750 - for LED Light Sources for Use in Lighting Products. They will also learn about the main risks associated with the use of LED light sources, as well as how to identify the critical components and their implications when designing products for the US market. Furthermore, a session of the presentation will be tackle the main differences between UL/IEC standards for LED and LED lighting source, and energy saving.
The road show will start in Frankfurt, Germany on May 23rd, Milan, Italy, May 24th, Barcelona, Spain, May 29th, Birmingham, UK, June 5–7th June.
There is free admittance for press.
